133. Return to the Library
Amy heads back to the library. “With all those books in there, there has to be something that'll give me a clue to what's going on in this house. Maybe a family history or something...” She heads in and tries to conduct a systematic search of the book piles, but to no avail; there's no rhyme or reason to which books are in which piles, nor any relation whatsoever to the types of books that should be shelved nearby.
While sorting through a single pile, Amy finds books on ornithology, ancient history, and the Civil War diaries of Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. Growing frustrated, she picks up one last book. It's a beaten-up red book, the dust jacket long gone. The yellowed pages seem to have a faint glow about them. Amy opens the book to the title page and learns that it's an anthology of short detective fiction by P.W. Scratch.
“I should probably put it down....” Amy thinks to herself, “But it probably wouldn't hurt to read one short story, right?”
What should Amy do?
