218. Buffed
Amy scoffs at the ghost. This house has treated her terribly ever since she walked through the doors (before, even!). It can live with a little scuffing on its precious ballroom floor. She stands up and quickly darts away from the servant, charging for the dance floor. As she does, the guests make a hole. Amy soon finds herself in the center of the floor, with all of the guests looking at her and her shoes, clucking and tutting in disapproval.
Amy looks back and finds that she's left a clear trail of scuff marks from the door to her present location. She can feel the rising anger among the assembled guests. Maybe this wasn't the greatest idea?
As Amy stands there, shuffling her feet and feeling the embarrassment of hundreds of eyes staring daggers at her, she hears a rumbling. Looking up, she sees that the servant has a giant mechanical floor buffer and is making his way across the floor, over her trail of scuff marks, directly toward her. He gains speed as he moves, all the time glaring at her.
Amy realizes that, at this speed, there's no way he's stopping before he hits her. She spins around and runs. She cuts a circuitous path around the ballroom, trying to lose the buffer, but it only gains speed and closes in on her.
Finally it catches up to her. Amy turns and throws her hands up in a last-ditch effort to protect herself from the infernal machine, but to no avail. It slams into her, sending her sprawled flat on her back, then runs right over her. In her wake, Amy lies flattened on the floor, arms and legs spread-eagle, an expression of dazed surprise permanently written across her face. With a layer of wax applied atop her, Amy is now a permanent fixture on the ballroom floor, an eternal reminder to guests to please remove their shoes to avoid scuff marks.
Amy is in no condition to continue this continue this adventure or her life.
