256. Good as Gold

Ignoring the fairly obvious warning signs, Amy makes a beeline for the gold statue and its scepter. As she does, the medusa slows down, allowing Amy to gain some distance. “Ha!” thinks Amy, “looks like she's scared of it!”

Amy reaches the statue and grabs onto the scepter with both hands, pulling and twisting in an attempt to loosen it from the statue's grip. After a few seconds of tugging the scepter comes loose and Amy spins around triumphantly, grinning and swinging the scepter in front of her.

The medusa, meanwhile, holds a finger to her cheek and smiles knowingly. Amy's fingers go numb. She looks, dumbfounded, at her hands, and finds that they're turning to gold. The gold spreads rapidly down her arms.

“Ah, nuts,” says Amy with a look of disappointment. Soon her entire body has turned to solid gold and she is frozen contemplating her hands and the scepter.

The medusa walks over and, with a few quick slashes of her claws, strips Amy naked. “Girls who make me run don't deserve the dignity of clothing,” she informs Amy matter-of-factly. She then turns and leaves Amy to her fate, an eternity spent as a golden statue.

Frozen forever, Amy is left to ponder the stupidity of grabbing a scepter that had “Midas Curse” written all over it.

Amy is in no condition to continue this adventure.
