64. Pipes

“Better not stick around here. I don’t entirely trust that flower.” Amy prepares herself for another mad dash past the Flytrap’s vines. This time they seem to be aiming low, focusing on her feet and trying to trip her up. Amy hops over one vine after another. She feels like she’s playing hopscotch as she makes her way across the room. The process slows her progress down a lot and focuses her attention on the floor, to the point where she nearly doesn’t notice a tendril creeping up from behind, trying to wrap around her neck. She does notice it, however, and quickly ducks under the darting vine.

After a few more minutes of this, Amy finally makes it out of reach of the Flytrap again. She takes a look around. Against the wall are a set of conduits attached to pipes. The pipes lead up to and run along the ceiling, where sprinklers dotted throughout the greenhouse periodically release a brief mist of water. Attached to one of the conduits is a bottle labeled “Doctor Carluzzo’s Miracle Plant Growth Formula.” A panel nearby contains various controls that seem to determine how frequently the mist is sprayed; a red override button is used to spray immediately.

Next to the conduits is a supply closet. Amy opens it up and is disappointed to find it empty; just a coat hanger on a hook. The closet has a shelf above the hook that’s out of Amy’s sight. She reaches a hand up to feel around up there and discovers something big and cylindrical. After struggling to roll it toward her she finally pulls it down. It’s a canister with an atomizer on the front and a plunger on the back.

“Hmmmm,” thinks Amy, “I could load my herbicide into this canister and use it to attack that flytrap. Or I could try replacing the nutrient formula with my herbicide and spraying the whole greenhouse with the stuff.”

Which method should Amy use?

Attach the herbicide to the conduit

Load up the canister and attack the flytrap
