71. Outside the Powder Room

Amy thinks a moment, then decides to go investigate the small door in the middle of the hall, which she now believes is likely to be the powder room. She remembers Boswell mentioning that somebody was in there, a “Mistress Stacy.” On the one hand, Boswell warned her to avoid this Mistress Stacy. On the other, though, it's her only lead on anyone else she may be able to talk to around here other than Boswell. “Besides,” Amy reasons with herself, “I'm a pretty pleasant person. I can probably get along with this Stacy and maybe figure out more of what's going on here!”

Amy walks up to the little wooden door. Through the wood she thinks she can make out music, possibly... some sort of strident, atonal rock and roll. Punk, perhaps? Hair metal? Amy decides to be polite and try knocking.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

“I'M USING THE BATHROOM! GOD! CAN'T I HAVE ANY PRIVACY IN THIS FUCKING HOUSE!”

The voice is a shrill one and Amy instantly recognizes the inflection and tone as that of a teenage girl. Amy recalls having heard roughly the same words from her sister back when she lived at home. “And,” Amy thinks, “if I'm being entirely honest with myself, I probably acted the same way back when I was in high school.” Now, how did Amy's mom handle these situations?

What should Amy do next?
