93. Dancing with Herself

Amy decides that there's no way she's ready for championship ballroom dancing after just three long-ago lessons and one dance. Getting into the spirit of things, she pulls out the handkerchief that the swordsman gave her and holds it up to her face coquettishly, then drops it delicately on the floor.

“Oh, sir, there is no way I could possibly match your dancing skills. I wouldn't even dare set foot on the floor, lest it detract from your brilliance.”

This seems to mollify Wilhelm, who puffs up proudly. “Why, yes, there is no shame in admitting who is the best. I applaud your humility.” He begins clapping, and is soon joined by the whole crowd. As the applause continues, the crowd gradually fades out, until Amy finds herself alone once again.

Amy looks around the empty ballroom. On the floor where Wilhelmina once stood her dress now lies on the floor. Amy picks it up and inspects it. It is a very fancy dress, a deep burgundy and covered in delicate black lace. It has short sleeves and a straight hem on the skirt, which descends to mid-calf. Amy decides it wouldn't hurt to keep hold of this dress; finally she's found something here that she can wear while preserving her modesty!

Continuing her rounds of the ballroom, she walks over to the musical instruments that were recently used to play music for the ball. On the piano sits a small pair of ear plugs. Amy regards them suspiciously, but a careful inspection reveals that they appear to be unused. She pockets them, just in case she needs them later. Her attention is then drawn to a solid gold violin lying on the ground. Amy wonder what it sounds like? As she reaches out to take it, a feeling of dread washes over her. Maybe this isn't a great idea...
