91. Taking Good Care of Her Skin

Rosella passed through the door and a peculiar blend of awe and dread mingled to form goose bumps on her delicate
skin.  The foot of a magnificent staircase stood before her, and like a great serpent, wrapped around the walls of the
tower, coiling upward.  She had finally reached the path to the second level of the castle!  Thanking her lucky stars that
she had made it this far without meeting an untimely end, Rosella dreaded what awaited her on the next floor.  Every
step seemingly brought her closer to Lolotte.  The very thought made the princess tremble, but fear would not deter her
quest.  With heels and magic mirror still in hand, she took resolute steps toward the coiling stairwell to face the unknown
evils ahead.

Putting one foot on the first step, Rosella tilted her head back to peer up the massive coiling staircase.  The effect was
dizzying, but what she saw was even worse.  At first, she wasn’t quite sure what it was.  It almost looked like a cat, but the
more she squinted upwards, the more she realized she was wrong.  No, it looked much more like a lizard.  Yes, it was

homeland.  She had the strangest feeling that the lizard was staring back down at her when the mirror went deadly cold
in the palm of her hand.  Terrified that the artifact’s glass might shatter under the pressure, Rosella ducked and covered
her face, holding the potentially dangerous mirror above her head.  Instead of the cold glass shattering into a shower of
deadly shards, an ear splitting screech filled the tower.  Startled by the horrifying sound, Rosella uncovered her head
and peered up into the tower just in time to see a large gray block of stone plummeting right for her!  She jumped
backwards to land on roughly on her behind just in time to see a stone lizard crash to the floor and crack apart into large
chunks.

Rosella stared slack jawed at the broken remains of the stone lizard with blue saucer eyes unsure of what had just
happened.  She could only surmise that the magic mirror had saved her from a dark magic and being quick on her fate
then avoided her a crushing blow!  Nearly dying twice in the span of mere seconds was about all that she could handle,
and thus she aptly fainted from the stress.

At the foot of the stairs sometime later, Rosella’s eyes fluttered open after she had girlishly lost consciousness.

“Well, well, well… look who we have here,” came a dreadful voice…
