116. One Book and One Garter Belt Richer
Amy decides to surreptitiously grab the garter belt. She wads it up and sneaks it into her pocket. She then returns her attention to the librarian, who has just emerged from a pile of books holding what must be the book Amy was looking for. As he rounds the various stacks of books Amy could swear she can sort of see through him to the books on the other side. The closer he gets, the less “there,” he seems to be, fading quickly until he completely disappears just as he reaches Amy. The book falls through the now-thin air, landing at Amy’s feet. Curious at the librarian’s disappearance, but not overly inclined to mourn his passing, Amy bends over to pick up the book.
“An Introduction to Gigantism in Herbology: On the Care and Feeding of Monstrous Plants. Huh,” Amy reads aloud to herself, “I suppose this might be useful.” Tucking the book under her arm, she leaves the librarian’s office and begins to make her way back out of the library. As she does so, however, she notices a strange volume sitting on a pedestal. It has an odd, rough leathery cover and seems to be written in red ink. Amy finds the book strangely compelling, yet something in the back of her mind screams at her not to touch it.
What should Amy do?
