19. The Hunger

Amy approaches the grave she noticed earlier. The inscription states that a Reginald Palmer is buried there. The glinting that caught Amy’s eye comes from what looks to be a small piece of gold. Amy bends down and reaches out to touch it. Suddenly the gold comes rushing toward her! Startled, Amy falls backwards on her butt. The gold is a ring, which she realizes because it is attached to a skeletal finger that now grasps for her. A chorus of moans surrounds Amy; she looks around and finds that rotted corpses are pulling themselves out of all the graves around her, each one staring intently at her. Amy scrambles to her feet and turns toward the exit, only to find two shambling corpses between her and freedom. She runs in the opposite direction. After only a few steps her left foot refuses to move at her bidding and she falls face-first to the ground. She looks back to find that a decrepit hand has a death-grip on her ankle. Grasping hands come at her from all directions, grabbing her arms, her legs, her hair, her neck. A sharp pain erupts in the crown of her skull. Amy screams as a zombie begins gnawing on her head. She struggles to escape, but too many hands are grabbing her too tightly. Amy’s skull is punctured and she blacks out as the zombies begin feasting on the moist goo within.

The next night a new zombie joins the shambling hordes. The new zombie is freshly dead, without the stench of decay. A gaping hole in the brown-haired zombie’s skull grants an excellent view of an empty cranial cavity. The zombie wears a ripped black t-shirt and tattered jeans, a ratty pair of heart-print panties visible through a hole torn in the seat of the pants. The only motive force animating the lifeless husk is an unquenchable desire for human flesh.

“Braaaaaains….”

While not as dead as she could be, Amy doesn’t really possess the mental faculties to put together a rescue attempt anymore (and Shannon probably wouldn’t enjoy being rescued by Amy in her current form).

Go back and try harder!
