36. Pop Goes the Diva

Amy hits on a brilliant scheme. Adopting her most pathetic face, Amy pleads with the angry diva.

“Please, ma'am, I just head your voice and had to hear it up close. I wonder... could you sing for me just one last time, so that I can hear its beauty before you send me to my eternal reward?”

The diva's face softens. Amy can tell that flattery is getting her everywhere. After a few moment's consideration she replies, “Very well. I shall send you to heaven before I send you to hell.”

The diva sets Amy down, takes a deep breath, and begins singing. Amy waits patiently for her opportunity. Finally, as the chosen song reaches its climax, the diva hits a particularly loud, particularly high note and Amy seizes the moment. She leaps up and snatches the earplugs from the diva's ears. A look of panic washes over the diva's face, but her pride won't allow her to stop singing without finishing the song. Her face reddens, then seems to expand. It swells up like a balloon until- POP! the diva's head explodes in a shower of blood, brains, and bone. The diva's helmet goes flying through the air, clattering onto the floor a few feet away.

“Eeeee-Yuck!” shouts Amy as she wipes ichor off of her shirt and face. Soon, however, the remains of the diva mysteriously fade out of existence, as though she was never there. The only remnant of the former diva is the horned viking helmet.

Amy takes a moment to catch her breath and examine the room. Lots of instruments, but nothing that looks particularly useful Then she notices a few things atop the piano. A closer inspection reveals a pair of burgundy velvet opera-length gloves and a hand-mirror, probably both property of Amy's recent antagonist. Amy shrugs and stuffs them into her pocket.

On her way out the door, Amy's eyes fall on the horned helmet and she has a silly thought. “Maybe it would be fun to try on that helmet,” she thinks, “You know, pretend to be a viking, just to see what it looks like? After all, what harm could it do?”

What should Amy do?
